TRANSMISSION FROM PARADISO

Don Nova started out as a short story called The Last Crooner On The Moon, which I wrote an early draft of in 2016. It then grew into an incomplete novel before evolving into an unfinished rock-opera. In early 2018, I began to lay down demo versions of the songs and novel excerpts for the album with my collaborator/manager/uncle Buster Versace.

Cut to: May 2018.

A sci-fi concept album is released with similar themes of space-based hospitality, lounge lizards, and the impending apocalypse.

I lost my shit. I’d recorded demos for over half the album. They were now useless. There was no way I could put them out. So I just put them away. And then six months later, I had a bit of a breakdown. I took a load of cheap speed, microwaved the master copies of my back-catalogue, and tossed the remnants off the coast at Canvey Island.

A little over a year later, Buster found an old hard drive in his ex-wife’s shed. He lives there sometimes. They’ve got an arrangement. Anyway, on the hard-drive were a bunch of old recordings and demos. Somehow they’d managed to survive the purge. In all likelihood, Buster probably hid it.

And so, due to public demand, I’ve decided to release thirty of the surviving demo recordings from the Don Nova sessions. I won’t lie, there’s huge chunks missing, but I think the story still makes sense. Even if it is missing many of the multiple interwoven subplots from the full version.
